Grandma’s Chow Mein Noodle Candy

Spiders: A Mid-Western Treat

Here is another “get in and go” treat to try. Treats that you can make and then take with you are the very best. This one comes from my famous Grandma Dody. Grandma was a real character. When I was a young girl around six, my grandma Dody taught me a trick that I will forever remember. I am not saying that I can still do this trick but when I was six I was almost as good as Grandma.

One afternoon, Grandma and I were sitting in her backyard. I think we were working in the garden and Grandma showed me how she could get her foot up over her head making it possible for one to “suck their toes.” Still at the age of 90 Grandma was able to get her foot over her head.

We all have fond memories of our grandmothers. Grandma was great at making delicious treats for her grandchildren. When she hadn’t made you a special treat, there was a box of Twinkies hiding in the pantry to hold us over.

Grandma passed away a few years ago, but we will always be grateful for her legacy… and her recipes.

Chow Mein Noodle Candy

1 Can chow mein noodles
1 bag Butterscotch chips
1 bag chocolate chips
1 cup peanuts or cashews
Melt chocolate & butterscotch chips over hot water. Mix in noodles and nuts, spoon out onto wax paper and chill.
