One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, “Boys, I’m not turning
I’m headed for a land that’s far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we’ll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains

The kids and I decided to take that journey to the Big Rock Candy Mountain located in Marysvale, Utah. Just off I-70 in Central Utah you drive East only about 5 miles until you come to the Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort. There you will see a mountain that looks as if it is made of chocolate, marshmallow and caramel. There is even a mineral stream that looks like lemonade. Beautiful scenery for sure and a great place for a bike ride.

We had 5 bicycles with us and 7 people. Luckily we were able to rent a couple more bicycles right there at the resort for the rest of our crew. Our crew consisted of two ten year olds, two teenagers, two twenty-somethings and me. Luckily for me we started our journey at the top and coasted most of the way down.

The bike path starts at the resort and travels along the Sevier River. We took plenty of water and a few snacks. The whole trip took about 2 hours (because I had to keep stopping) and we had a wonderful adventure. The 10 year olds and teenagers wanted to ride back to the top, but I was grateful that my husband met us at the bottom with the car.

Enjoy this cute video of  the song “Big Rock Candy Mountain” written by Harry “Haywire” McClintock.
