I just started really getting into Social Media a few months ago. At first it became a way for me to connect with my family that live a couple of hours away. Facebook was my first glimpse into connecting on the web outside of email. I saw what family and friends were doing that I had not had contact with for years. Visiting and catching up was so much fun and actually therapeutic for me living far from my hometown.

My first real adventure in Social Media happened at “BlogWorld” in Las Vegas, Nevada. There I had so much fun meeting new people, learning and getting some great ideas. Now I am addicted to Social Media. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg and etc. are my new occupation. To become better at my occupation, I try to hit as many social events as I can to learn more and more.

When I heard about the Social Media Summit in Salt Lake City, I knew I had to go. After all, Chris Brogan was going to be speaking. When I first started my blog I was told, “If you want to learn how to blog, follow Chris Brogan. He is the best.” I am still learning and now I have the book, Trust Agents, he coauthored with Julien Smith to help me even more.

The speakers were all fantastic. Mitch Joel, author of [ad name=”six pixels text”], started off the morning speaking about how we are all connected. Julien Smith followed speaking about being connected to your audience and being a part of every conversation.

Chris Brgan was the concluding speaker and shared the most valuable piece of information I learned at the Summit. That is to help others around you. Promote other people twelve times more than you promote yourself. If you are looking out for the better interest of others, you will be successful in all you do.
